Job Title: Assistant Manager – Quality of Teaching and Learning
Location: HMP Brixton (London, SW2)
Salary: From £35,000 + £5,000 London Weighting per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an inspiring Assistant Manager – Quality of Teaching and Learning to join the education leadership team on-site at HMP Brixton. Working closely alongside the Education Manager, you will lead on quality assurance, staff development, and curriculum performance across Functional Skills, Personal & Social Development (PSD), and vocational programmes—fostering an innovative teaching environment that empowers adult learners to rebuild their futures.
What You Will Be Doing
Quality Assurance Leadership: Lead on-site quality improvement initiatives, developmental observations, and assessment audits to raise standards and meet key performance indicators across the department.
Curriculum Management: Support the Education Manager with effective management and development of the curriculum, ensuring provision aligns with the needs of prison-based learners, awarding bodies, and post-release employers.
Staff Performance & Coaching: Manage and mentor teaching staff, encouraging innovative, problem-solving pedagogical approaches to improve student retention, engagement, and qualification achievements.
Target & Process Drive: Implement robust quality systems and processes to monitor learner outcomes, ensuring continuous readiness for external inspections and internal audits.
Departmental Support: Work collaboratively with prison management, support practitioners, and external stakeholders to promote a whole-prison culture of educational excellence.
What We Are Looking For
Academic & Teaching Credentials: A relevant First Degree or professional qualification alongside a recognised Level 5+ Teaching Qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS).
Teaching Experience: Significant, successful teaching experience across Further Education, adult skills, or prison education settings.
Quality & Curriculum Management: Demonstrable experience in managing curriculum development, implementing quality assurance frameworks, and managing staff performance to drive educational improvement.
Essential Requirements: Full UK Driving Licence and access to your own transport.
Core Attributes: High motivation, resilience, excellent communication, and the confidence to lead curriculum change and inspire teaching teams in a secure adult environment.
