For time-served electricians
Teach the trade you know
Colleges want sparks who have actually done the job, to bring on the apprentices coming through.
Trade out the loft hatches and floorboards for a workshop full of apprentices who want to learn it properly.
No CV needed for the call. Half an hour, no obligation, straight answers.
Why you
Years on the tools is the bit nobody can teach
Colleges are not short of people who can read the regs out loud. They are short of people who have chased an intermittent fault on a Friday afternoon, walked into a board that had been got at by somebody's cousin, and know exactly which corners an apprentice will try to cut, because they once tried them too.
You already know the syllabus
Wiring regs, inspection and testing, installation, containment, fault finding, AM2 prep. You have been doing it for years. Teaching it is a new skill, but the knowledge is already yours.
You do not need to be a teacher yet
Plenty of colleges take on time-served electricians and put them through a teaching qualification once they are in post, with time set aside to do it.

Into the workshop
We stay in touch through your first term, when the real questions start.
The package
What comes with the job
Beyond the salary, teaching carries a set of terms that are hard to find on the tools.
A pension worth having
Employer contributions of up to 28%, paid in while you work. Nothing on site comes close.
Leave in weeks, not days
Up to 55 days a year once college closures are counted, and you know the dates a year out.
Your evenings are yours
No call-outs, no weekend emergencies, no chasing invoices or quoting on a Sunday night.
Somewhere to progress
Course leader, curriculum lead, head of department. Your teaching qualification is usually funded along the way.
We will walk you through the numbers for the colleges near you on the call, so you can see the whole picture before you decide anything.

What sparks ask us first
Do I need a teaching qualification to start?
Usually not to be appointed. Many colleges will take you on for your trade experience and support you through a recognised teaching qualification once you are in post. We will point you at the ones that do it properly.
What will I earn?
It depends on the college, the region and your experience, and it rises as you gain your teaching qualification and take on course responsibility. We will give you the real range for colleges near you rather than a headline figure.
What are the hours and holidays really like?
Teaching hours plus preparation and marking, with annual leave and college closures that can reach up to 55 days. A full working year, but a predictable one you can plan around.
Can I keep my own work going?
Many lecturers keep some private work ticking over, subject to their contract. Worth raising early, and we will ask on your behalf.
Can I try it before committing?
Yes. A lot of people start with sessional or part-time hours alongside their current work to see how it suits them. We will suggest it where it fits.
