About the role

Lead the strategic vision for health and social care curriculum across Stoke on Trent College, a curriculum leadership role shaping vocational pathways and learner outcomes across Health, Social Care, Early Years and STLS provision.

This is a leadership role with strategic and operational responsibility for the planning, delivery and quality assurance of an ambitious, inclusive and responsive curriculum that meets the needs of learners, employers and the wider community, spanning Full Time Study Programmes, Adult Learning, Apprenticeships and T Levels.

The postholder will bring genuine professional credibility and current sector insight to inform curriculum design, quality improvement and employer engagement, ensuring provision is industry-aligned, high-quality and well-positioned to support learner progression into employment and further study.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development, growth and delivery of an ambitious and responsive curriculum aligned to current and future health and social care sector needs
  • Secure clear progression pathways for young people and adults into further learning, employment and apprenticeships
  • Drive quality improvement across teaching, learning, assessment and student support, using data to set targets, monitor progress and inform decision-making
  • Lead curriculum planning and resource allocation to ensure delivery models are financially sustainable and aligned with College priorities
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with employers, awarding organisations and sector partners to enhance curriculum relevance and learner opportunities
  • Provide clear, inclusive leadership to curriculum teams, fostering a culture of high expectations, collaboration and accountability
  • Lead performance management, appraisal and professional development to build high-performing teams
  • Maintain oversight of compliance with funding rules, safeguarding, audit requirements and College policies
  • Contribute to whole-college quality assurance activities including self-assessment, improvement planning and preparation for external inspection

What we are looking for

The College is seeking an inclusive, values-driven leader with a strong and credible specialist background in health and social care, and a proven track record of curriculum leadership within Further Education. The successful candidate will combine sector expertise with the strategic focus and operational grip to lead a high-performing team.

  • Teaching and/or curriculum leadership experience in health and social care or a closely related vocational field
  • A teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent), or willingness to work towards one
  • Demonstrable professional credibility within the curriculum area, with substantial occupational experience desirable
  • Proven experience of leading curriculum improvement, quality assurance, and performance management
  • Ability to analyse and use performance data to inform planning and drive improvement
  • Strong understanding of FE inspection, funding requirements and curriculum design in vocational provision
  • Experience of employer engagement, work-based learning and building sector partnerships
  • Inclusive, resilient leadership style with professional integrity and the ability to inspire trust and confidence
