Lead the strategic and operational delivery of construction curriculum across Stoke on Trent College, a curriculum leadership role shaping vocational pathways and learner outcomes across the construction sector.

Reporting to the Assistant Principal – Skills and Green Technology, the Head of Learning for Construction holds full responsibility for planning, delivery, and quality assurance of the College's Construction curriculum across Study Programmes, Adult Learning, and associated part-time provision.

The postholder will act as a bridge between industry demand and the College's curriculum supply, working collaboratively with internal and external partners to position the College as the trusted provider of choice for construction education and training in the region.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational management of all Construction provision including Study Programmes, Adult Learning, and part-time activity
  • Lead curriculum design, development, and innovation to ensure a high-quality and responsive construction offer aligned to learner progression and employer need
  • Drive quality improvement across teaching, learning, assessment, and student support using data to set targets, monitor progress, and inform decision-making
  • Expand the construction curriculum in line with the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) and multiple funding streams, including full cost income
  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance team culture through mentoring, CPD, and performance management
  • Build strong relationships with employers, local authorities, and awarding organisations to inform curriculum planning and learner progression routes
  • Monitor budgets, forecast revenue, and ensure financial compliance and value for money across all activities
  • Contribute to whole-college quality assurance activities including self-assessment reports, lesson observations, and inspection preparation
  • Maintain oversight of compliance with funding rules, audit requirements, safeguarding expectations, and College policies

What we are looking for

The College is seeking an inclusive, values-driven leader with a deep understanding of construction education and a proven track record within Further Education. The successful candidate will bring professional credibility, current sector insight, and the strategic focus to lead a high-performing curriculum team.

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience, plus a recognised teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
  • Substantial experience in construction education with a strong specialist background in the sector
  • Proven experience of curriculum leadership and management within a Further Education environment
  • Demonstrable ability to use data intelligently to drive improvement and deliver outcomes exceeding national benchmarks
  • Experience in quality assurance, employer engagement, and inclusive vocational curriculum design
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, contracts, and income generation
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
