HGV Trainer / Assessor
Temporary | Contract
Location: the East Midlands
Start date: October 2026
Are you an experienced HGV professional looking to pass your skills on to the next generation of technicians and drivers?
About the Role
A further education provider in the East Midlands is looking for an HGV Trainer / Assessor to support learners and apprentices working towards their qualifications. You'll combine practical, hands-on training with assessment, drawing on your own time in industry to bring the subject to life.
You'll work across workshop, classroom and workplace settings, keeping learners on track and making sure their evidence meets awarding body requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering HGV training across workshop, classroom and workplace settings.
- Carrying out assessments and practical observations to evaluate learner competence.
- Reviewing learner progress and providing feedback, coaching and support towards timely achievement.
- Gathering and verifying portfolio evidence in line with awarding body standards.
- Maintaining accurate records of attendance, progress and assessment decisions.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant HGV or heavy vehicle discipline
- Relevant industry experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy goods vehicles
- Strong communication and organisational skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- An assessor qualification such as TAQA or A1
- A teaching qualification
- Previous experience delivering or assessing apprenticeship standards
