Job Description
Functional Skills Lecturer (Foundation)
Temporary | Contract
Location: the West Midlands
Are you an English or maths specialist who enjoys helping learners at the very start of their journey build confidence in skills they may have struggled with before?
About the role
Our client, a further education provider in the West Midlands, is looking for a Functional Skills Lecturer to deliver English and maths to learners on foundation-level programmes. You'll plan and deliver accessible sessions that meet learners at their starting points and help them work towards qualifications that open doors.
You'll assess learners' work, track their progress and adapt your teaching to a range of abilities and learning needs, working alongside curriculum and support colleagues to make sure each learner gets the help they need.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering Functional Skills English and maths sessions to learners on foundation provision.
- Planning and preparing lessons that meet learners' needs and course requirements.
- Assessing learners' work, giving clear feedback and monitoring progress towards qualifications.
- Keeping accurate records of attendance, progress and achievement.
- Working with curriculum and support colleagues to meet individual learner needs.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Level 2 English and maths (or equivalent)
- Experience of teaching or supporting learners in English and/or maths
- The ability to engage and build confidence in learners who have found these subjects difficult
- An enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
- Experience of foundation, supported learning or SEND provision in a further education setting
If you're ready to help learners achieve the English and maths qualifications they need to move forward, we'd love to hear from you.
