English Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
Are you an experienced English teacher looking to help learners gain the qualifications that open doors?
About the Role
An education provider is looking for an English Lecturer to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to learners across a range of study programmes. You'll plan and deliver engaging sessions, assess progress and build the confidence of learners who may have struggled with English in the past.
You'll work alongside curriculum colleagues to make sure English is relevant to each learner's wider programme, and you'll create a supportive classroom where learners feel able to achieve.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering GCSE and Functional Skills English sessions to learners of mixed abilities.
- Preparing schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
- Assessing learner work, tracking progress and providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Adapting teaching to meet the needs of individual learners and close gaps in knowledge.
- Working with curriculum colleagues to embed English within wider study programmes.
- Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive learning environment.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET, QTS or QTLS) or a willingness to work towards one
- Experience teaching GCSE or Functional Skills English in further education or secondary education
- Strong understanding of the GCSE English specification and effective resit strategies
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Ability to motivate and support learners, particularly those on vocational programmes
- Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
Desirable (but not essential):
- Degree or equivalent qualification in English or a related subject
- Experience of standardisation and internal quality assurance
