English Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
About the Role
As an English Lecturer with a further education provider, you'll deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English to learners across a range of study programmes, helping them build the literacy and confidence they need for work, life and further study.
You'll plan lessons and resources, assess and track progress, and give feedback that moves learners forward. You'll work alongside curriculum colleagues to keep teaching consistent and to support learners who have gaps in their knowledge or who are resitting.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging GCSE and Functional Skills English lessons to learners of mixed abilities.
- Planning schemes of work, lesson resources and assessments.
- Marking work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Monitoring and tracking learner progress against targets.
- Supporting learners to build confidence and motivation in their English studies.
- Maintaining high standards of classroom management and a positive, inclusive learning environment.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience teaching GCSE and Functional Skills English in further education or secondary education
- A recognised teaching qualification, such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE, Cert Ed or Level 5 DET, or a willingness to work towards one
- Good understanding of the GCSE English specification and effective resit strategies
- Ability to adapt teaching to varied learning needs
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- An Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
Desirable (but not essential):
- A degree in a relevant subject area
- Experience of embedding English within vocational programmes
