Job Description
English Lecturer
Temporary
Location: the East of England
Start date: 13 September 2026
Are you an English specialist who wants to help post-16 learners gain the qualification that opens the next door for them?
About the role
As an English Lecturer, you'll plan and deliver engaging lessons that build the subject knowledge, written confidence and communication skills your learners need to succeed. Many will be working towards qualifications alongside a vocational programme, so you'll make the subject relevant and achievable for them.
Working with a further education provider, you'll teach across the English programme, adapting your approach to a range of abilities and helping every learner progress. You'll monitor progress closely and give the feedback and encouragement that keeps students on track.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering English lessons that are engaging and well structured.
- Preparing schemes of work, resources and assessments that support progression and achievement.
- Marking work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Tracking learner performance and putting interventions in place where needed.
- Supporting learners with gaps in knowledge, building their confidence and motivation.
- Contributing to curriculum development and quality improvement.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- Degree in English or a related subject
- Experience teaching English, ideally with post-16 or resit learners
- A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards one
- Strong classroom management and learner engagement skills
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience teaching within further education
- Understanding of GCSE and Functional Skills frameworks
If you're ready to help learners achieve a qualification that changes what comes next for them, we'd love to hear from you.
