Carpentry Lecturer
Temporary | Contract
Location: the East Midlands
Start date: September 2026
Are you an experienced carpenter or joiner looking to step off the tools and pass your skills on to the next generation of tradespeople?
About the Role
A further education provider in the East Midlands is looking for a Carpentry Lecturer to join its construction teaching team. You'll deliver practical workshop sessions and classroom lessons, helping learners build the hand skills, technical knowledge and confidence they need to progress into employment or further study.
You'll be supported by an established department, and you'll have the scope to bring your own trade experience directly into your teaching.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Teaching carpentry and joinery programmes from entry level to Level 3.
- Delivering practical workshop sessions alongside classroom theory.
- Preparing schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources.
- Assessing learner progress and providing timely feedback and support.
- Preparing learners for employment, apprenticeships and further study.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A Level 3 qualification or higher in carpentry and joinery or a related construction discipline
- Significant industry experience within carpentry and joinery
- Level 2 or equivalent in English and maths
- A genuine commitment to developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed or Level 5 DET
- Assessor qualifications such as CAVA or A1
- Previous experience of teaching in further education
