Job Description

Carpentry Lecturer

Contract

Are you an experienced carpentry professional looking to inspire the next generation of tradespeople?

About the Role

As a Carpentry Lecturer, you'll deliver engaging, practical teaching to learners working towards their carpentry and joinery qualifications. You'll bring your trade experience into the classroom and workshop, helping students build the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed in the industry.

You'll plan and prepare lessons, assess learners' progress and provide the support and guidance that helps them achieve their qualifications and move on to employment or further study. Whether you're an established educator or an industry professional considering a move into teaching, you'll play a key part in shaping careers.

If you don't yet have a teaching qualification, that's not a barrier. The school welcomes applicants from a trade background and offers support to help you develop into the role. This post is offered as a contract, with a planned start date of September 2026.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering practical and theoretical carpentry sessions to learners across a range of levels.
  • Planning and preparing lessons, resources and schemes of work.
  • Assessing learners' work and providing constructive feedback on their progress.
  • Supporting learners to develop the practical skills and professional standards expected in the carpentry trade.
  • Maintaining a safe, well-organised workshop environment in line with health and safety requirements.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Significant hands-on experience working in carpentry or joinery
  • Strong practical skills and up-to-date industry knowledge
  • Good communication skills and the ability to motivate learners

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A relevant teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, Cert Ed or PTLLS/DTLLS
  • Experience delivering training, mentoring or supervising apprentices
  • A relevant trade qualification or NVQ in carpentry

If you're ready to share your carpentry expertise and help shape the next generation of tradespeople, we'd love to hear from you.

What's on Offer

  • Support to develop teaching qualification if not already held
