Carpentry Lecturer
Temporary
Location: the North West
Start date: 21 August 2026
Are you an experienced carpenter or joiner looking to step off the tools and pass your trade on to the next generation?
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider in the North West, delivering carpentry and joinery to learners working towards industry-recognised qualifications. You'll teach both practical workshop sessions and underpinning theory, keeping your delivery grounded in current site and bench practice.
You'll support learners to build the hand skills, technical knowledge and occupational competence they need to progress into employment, an apprenticeship or further study.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering practical workshop and classroom teaching across carpentry and joinery programmes.
- Planning and preparing schemes of work, practical sessions, lesson resources and assessments.
- Assessing learners' work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
- Monitoring learner progress and supporting those with gaps in knowledge.
- Maintaining a safe, professional workshop environment in line with industry standards.
- Working with curriculum colleagues to support achievement and retention.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- A Level 3 qualification or equivalent in carpentry and joinery, or equivalent site or bench experience
- Significant industry experience within carpentry and joinery
- A genuine drive to develop the next generation of skilled tradespeople
Desirable (but not essential):
- A recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, Cert Ed or Level 5 DET
- An assessor qualification
- Level 2 or equivalent in English and maths
