Caretaker
Temporary | Contract
Location: the South West
Start date: October 2026
About the Role
You'll join a further education provider as part of the team that keeps the site safe, clean and ready for learners and staff each day. It's a practical, hands-on role with plenty of variety, and you'll be a familiar and trusted presence around the premises.
You'll carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs, respond to day-to-day issues as they arise, and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to make sure the environment supports teaching and learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs across the site.
- Opening and securing the premises, and supporting the safety and security of buildings and grounds.
- Monitoring the condition of the site and reporting faults or hazards promptly.
- Assisting with room set-ups, deliveries, moving furniture and equipment.
- Supporting contractors on site and helping ensure work is completed safely.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Practical maintenance or caretaking experience
- A reliable, proactive approach and the ability to work on your own initiative
- Awareness of health and safety in a busy working environment
- Good communication skills and a helpful manner with staff and learners
- Physical fitness for the practical demands of the role
Desirable (but not essential):
- Previous experience working in a school, college or other education setting
- A relevant trade or health and safety qualification
