Job Description
Job Title: Bicycle Maintenance & Repair Tutor / Instructor
Location: Staffordshire area
Salary: From £30,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
The Opportunity
Are you a skilled bike mechanic, cycle technician, or hands-on engineer looking to step away from the commercial workshop and make a genuine social impact? Or an experienced trainer looking for a unique, highly rewarding environment?
We are recruiting for an enthusiastic Bikes Maintenance Tutor to join a leading training and education provider within a secure youth custodial setting. In this role, you will deliver practical, competency-based cycle mechanics and repair training programmes up to Level 2. Your knowledge will give young learners real-world trade skills, teamwork experience, and the practical qualifications they need to secure a stable career path upon release.
What You Will Be Doing
Practical Training: Plan and organise engaging cycle mechanics courses up to Level 2, teaching everything from basic servicing and diagnostics to complex bike repairs.
Progress Tracking: Assess learner progress, maintain accurate records, and contribute to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) to support each learner's personal goals.
Integrated Learning: Work collaboratively with Functional Skills Tutors and support staff to embed essential literacy, numeracy, and employability skills naturally into workshop projects.
Workshop Safety: Maintain a clean, structured, and safe workshop environment, instilling excellent health and safety habits in your learners.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all course delivery meets standard awarding body criteria, assisting with internal quality assurance (IQA) and compliance tracking.
What We Are Looking For
Industry Experience: A minimum of 2 years' practical experience in cycle mechanics, bicycle repair, engineering, or a closely related vocational trade.
Subject Knowledge: Strong, comprehensive knowledge of bicycle components, tools, diagnostic techniques, and servicing standards.
No Teaching or Assessing Qualifications? No Problem! If you have the trade expertise, our client will fully fund, support, and guide you to achieve your teaching qualification (AET/PTLLS) within 6 months, your Assessor Award within 12 months, and any specific accredited delivery awards within 2 years.
Core Skills: Excellent communication skills, strong organisational abilities, and a real passion for mentoring young people from diverse backgrounds.
Please note: Due to the secure nature of this environment, the successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and clear standard security clearances.
Why Apply?
