About the Role

Are you an experienced school leader with a strong safeguarding background, ready to take senior responsibility for keeping children safe?

You'll join the senior leadership team of an education provider, combining a whole-school leadership remit with the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead. It's a role for someone who is calm under pressure, confident making decisions, and trusted by staff, pupils and families alike.

You'll lead on safeguarding practice day to day, working closely with the headteacher, pastoral staff and external agencies, while contributing to the wider strategic direction and improvement of the school.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead, managing concerns, referrals and casework in line with statutory guidance.
  • Liaising with children's social care, early help services and other external agencies.
  • Leading safeguarding training, induction and ongoing development for all staff.
  • Maintaining accurate, confidential safeguarding records and reporting to senior leaders and governors.
  • Contributing to school improvement planning and the leadership of teaching and learning as part of the senior leadership team.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Substantial teaching experience with proven leadership responsibility
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead training, or readiness to undertake it
  • Thorough working knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education and statutory safeguarding duties
  • Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to handle sensitive information
  • Strong communication skills with pupils, families, staff and external agencies

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Previous experience as a DSL or Deputy DSL
  • Experience of multi-agency working and attending child protection conferences
  • Experience of leading staff training
  • A relevant leadership qualification
