Luke O’Neill Appointed Chief Commercial Officer to Spearhead Next Phase of Growth

Talentia Group’s award-winning education and public sector recruitment specialist strengthens its senior leadership team.

Dovetail & Slate, part of the Talentia Group, has announced the appointment of Luke O'Neill as its new Chief Commercial Officer, a strategic hire that signals the company's ambition to build on its already strong market position and expand into new sectors.

The announcement comes during a period of sustained momentum for the business. Dovetail & Slate was recently recognised in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies of 2025 and Best Places to Work list, accolades that reflect the Talentia Group's commitment to culture, wellbeing and high performance.

Luke brings 18 years of specialist experience in education recruitment, having begun his career as a trainee consultant in 2008. Over the course of his career he has progressed through consultancy, management and board-level leadership, developing particular expertise in further education, interim leadership and executive appointments across London and the South East.

On his recent appointment, Luke said: "What attracted me to Dovetail & Slate is the clear innovation, the strength of client relationships and the positive outcomes the organisation is delivering. What the team has achieved in a relatively short time is incredibly impressive, and now feels like the right time to join."

In his new role, Luke will lead on commercial strategy, executive recruitment, deepen client partnerships and drive expansion of Dovetail & Slate's recruitment model into adjacent markets, including housing and government, building on the company's established reputation in education.

Luke joins at a pivotal moment for the sector. He believes that while technology and AI will play an increasingly prominent role in recruitment, from pre-screening to CV sifting, the industry's foundations remain human. "Relationships will remain at the heart of this industry," he says. "People buy from people, and people want to give their business to those they trust."

He also sees a clear shift in client expectations with transactional recruitment giving way to strategic partnership. Luke added: "Clients want more from their recruitment partners. Added-value initiatives and genuine consultancy will separate those who thrive from those who lose market traction. It's no longer just about placing jobs, it's about the wraparound care and offering different solutions to different challenges."

Reflecting on his early impressions of the business, Luke highlighted Dovetail & Slate's culture as a defining characteristic of the business. "There's a real energy here, ambition, collaboration, and a shared drive to succeed. It's a high-performance environment, but it's balanced with genuine support and wellbeing."

Known for his calm and measured leadership style, Luke is motivated by continuous learning and the challenge of driving growth. He concluded: “My priority is to learn the business, understand what makes it successful, and then bring my experience to support the team. Often, it’s not about big changes, but small, meaningful improvements that make a real difference.”
